STOP HEARING YOUR NOISY NEIGHBORS!!!
Acoustical needs in residential applications vary from eliminating street and neighbor noise to shaping an acoustical environment in the home theater. There are many noise problems that can be addressed while designing your home or remedied in applications for existing residences. Noise levels for sources such as pipes, heating, air conditioning, washing machines, dryers, and footfall can be reduced with a variety of noise control solutions. Noise transmission from room to room is also an area of noise control that deserves consideration when occupants want to reduce outside noise in specific rooms such as bedrooms, living rooms, bathrooms, and home theaters.
City Soundproofing is dedicated to providing the information, design and materials needed to assure the required acoustical criteria are met for your application.
Solutions for common neighbor noise problems
Ceiling Applications
For ceiling applications, if possible, we would remove the existing ceiling to apply two layers of 5/8" drywall with Green Glue directly to the sub-floor above, before retrofitting with insulation. This step can make a big difference in "footfall" impact noise from above. QRSIC-1 isolation clips with furring channel and one or two layers of 5/8" drywall. This takes up less than three inches of interior space.
Wall Applications
We would first make sure you have insulation in the wall or ceiling cavities and, if not, then we would blow in insulation. We would then add a layer of QNRLV-100 loaded vinyl barrier, QRSIC-1 isolation clips with furring channel and one or two layers of 5/8" drywall. This takes up less than three inches of interior space.
Doors and Windows
You may also want to check for door seals and door bottoms if you have noise coming through your doors. If your noise is coming from the outside, windows are the first suspect. Ask us about noise insulating windows.
Floors
Carpet underlayment delivers exceptional noise reduction to rooms below for "footfall," impact noise, and ambient noise transmission. "Floating floor' treatments can be installed under hardwood flooring for the same purpose.
Useful Products for Controlling Neighbor Noise
Flexible Sound Barriers
Resilient Sound Isolation Clips - Resilient Sound Isolation Clips, QRIC 1, are used to reduce structure borne noise from impact or "footfall." They add thickness to the application and increase cost, but significantly decrease noise transmission.
Green Glue is our newest product. It works very well for the cost and may be installed by contractors. It reduces noise transmission through walls and ceilings by "damping" the vibrations caused by ambient and structure borne noise, somewhat like putting a rubber mat over a drum head. Automatic Door Bottoms automatically create a seal at the bottom of your door when closed to prevent noise from passing through the space at the bottom of the door.
Door Seals
Acoustical Caulk should be added wherever there are "leaks," cracks and holes, where air can pass to reduce flanking noise.
Carpet Underlayment in 1- and 2-pound weights delivers exceptional noise reduction to rooms below for "footfall," impact noise, and ambient noise transmission. It comes in rolls and is a composite of Mass Loaded Vinyl and open cell foam to isolate the vinyl barrier from the floor.
